Pocahontas Humane Society

The Humane Society of Pocahontas County is eleven years old this year! Please bear with us while we construct our new web page. For now, you can find our adoptable pets at http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/WV11.html.

We have lots of great news to share with you this year!! At long last, we will have a home for our programs, and for some animals in need of foster care. With the help of donations from generous friends like you and sizeable donations from Emma Beard, Katherine Beard , we have purchased a nice double wide office building. It is awaiting site preparation on our and land donated by the Pocahontas Development Authority at the former Hanover Shoe Factory in Marlinton. Our new address is 410 Second Avenue, Marlinton, WV 24954. Up to now, we have been fostering cats at the office, and we need volunteers to continue this program. We have part time volunteer staff to work on setting up spay neuter clinics and give out vouchers.

This past year our dedicated volunteers have transported 70 puppies to rescue and rescued and re-homed over 20 adult dogs. In addition we have fostered and placed over 30 cats and kittens. Over 300 cats and dogs have been spayed with our help this year, about our yearly average over the last few years. We partnered with the Snowshoe Foundation to hold four spay/neuter clinics, and did several more on our own with the help of generous donors. The Pocahontas County Commission donated $5,000 to help spay and neuter animals and that program has been very successful. And 700 animals were vaccinated for rabies in clinics sponsored by HSPC!
